Latvian Radio - Seven Layers of Self-Defense

Latvian Radio
Seven Layers of Self-Defense

Rating: 7.2/10.0
Recommended Tracks: 1, 2, 4
RiYL: Big Star, R.E.M., Marmalade Souls, The Color Bars

Latvian Radio’s new album Seven Layers of Self-Defense, the latest brainchild from New York based singer-songwriter Patric Westoo, is unabashed in its pursuit of gentle indie-pop perfection. Dan Auerbach
Keep it Hid

Rating: 8.1/10.0
Recommended Tracks: 6,8,9,10
RiYL: The Black Keys, Greenhornes, Hound Dog Taylor, The Black Angels

Harkening back to age-tarnished Delta blues, Dan Auerbach’s first solo
album, Keep it Hid, scoops up a morsel of ambient and a heaping
spoonful of soul. With tracks like “The Prowl” that grip the gut with
guitar that crawls straight up your spine, this album is definitely a
must have if you’re into the classics, but craving a fresh sound. (more…)

Rating: 7.5/10.0
Recommended Tracks: 2, 4, 5
RiYL: Crystal Stilts, No Age, Women

Abe Vigoda’s Reviver EP is much less aggressive than their most recent
full length, Skeleton. This does not, however, imply that it is any less sincere than their previous efforts. The new sound exhibited on Reviver contains many of the elements of their previous works, but tones them down with softer vocals and layered guitars that build to chaos at just the right moments.
