The Sea Wees’ Art Adventure

So what do our station manager and music director get up to in their spare time? Suffice to say that, just like at Radio UTD, it involves heavy doses of sweet, sweet music and unbearable insanity.

And what does the system administrator do in his spare time? He edits this unabashedly joyous mishmash of silliness into a form that somewhat resembles the pilot episode to a children’s show that never was.

And then they turn it in as a class assignment.

And then the Dean of Arts and Humanities asks for a group photograph with them in costume.

That is how we roll.

People that Rule!

Our Golden Comet was just SO shiny and prestigious that I couldn’t get a good picture of it without making my methods clear. I’m not complaining!

For anyone who isn’t aware of how great an honor this is, the Golden Comet is an award given each year at the Student Leadership Awards Ceremony to the most outstanding school-sponsored student organization on campus! WOW!

I don’t really know where to start with this one. I’ve listened to Arm’s Way at least 10 times now and I’m still not sure whether or not I like it. Sure, the opening track has a lot going for it (the call-and-response between the guitar and violins had me on the first listen) and “Creeper”’s simple guitar solo with back-up violins guides you along quite well, but, no matter how hard I try (and I’ve tried pretty hard), there’s one barrier I just can’t get past: Islands are NOT The Unicorns. Define: M83. 1) Popular military granade, 2) distant and awe inspiring galaxy, 3) most amazing music ever created. Ever since the God-Like Brandon Garrett introduced me to this band I’ve been continuously blown away with timeless songs like “America”, “Don’t Save Us From the Flames” and “Asterisk”. I’ve listened to those 3 songs and many others hundreds of times individually and I still get jolts of emotion while listening. Everyone has that one band that sits high in the sky in regards to respect, admiration and even love, need I say more? Sometimes I would get this completely inhuman galaxy-destroying spike of rage that I’m sure many people in our generation have. It seems as if M83 is able to mirror what I/we feel and does not Let Men Burn Stars but instead turn what feels like soul eating black hole into something beautiful. (more…)
