Man Man
Rabbit Habits
Rating: 7.0/10
Reccommended Tracks: 1, 9, 13, 10
RIYL: Tom Waits, Tom Waits, contemporary self consciousness, Captain Beefheart, Tom Waits.
Excitement flowed through me (much like electric light flows through one of those fake backlit waterfall paintings sold at the mall) as I got ready to sit down and listen to Rabbit Habits. One of the best moments of last summer was listening to “Van Helsing Boombox” from Man Man’s sophomore release Six Demon Bag on repeat while driving around looking for burritos. I had similar expectations for this album, and already pictured myself practicing my best Tom Waits voice while hungry for beans and tortillas. As the first track played, I thought my waterfall was going to overflow. The best moment of this album comes to life on the opening track, “Mister Jung Stuffed.” There is a mix of raw tribal-drum energy, an omnipresent Tom Waits scrawl and a B-52s esque girly choir echoing alongside–which, I must add, is a good addition to any good god-fearing song. Interview- Scotland Yard Gospel Choir
March 29th, 2008 by Leyla Aksu
Fresh off SXSW, the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir are here to warm your hearts and then slowly break them with their new self-titled album sprinkled with bitter-sweet melodies, acoustic guitars, and wonderful pessimism. At the beginning of spring break, Elia, the only founding member left in the band, was nice enough to talk to us about their upcoming shows, the Smiths, and everything in between. Enjoy! (more…)
Evangelista- Hello, Voyager

Evangelista
Hello, Voyager
Rating: 6.4/10
Recommended Tracks: 4, 6, 3
RiYL: Scout Niblett, The Fiery Furnaces, Mayday
To be fair to this album I must admit this really isn’t my typical flavor of music. Carla Bozulich, the lead singer and writer of the band, is a completely new name to me, but from researching the internets I have found that she has been in the music scene for awhile. The music is very spastic and ranges from dawdling ballads to intense industrial rock heart attacks. Always having a dark tinge to it, the album has three highlights in my opinion. (more…)
