When something comes at you from a fresh perspective, you just have to grab it. No album this year even compares to the effect the Dirty Projectors album “Rise Above” has had on me. The premise of the album seems simple: David Longsteth wants to create a cover of the infamous Black Flag album “Damaged.” The simple chord progressions and very non-melodic Black Flag songs would seem to be a very simple cover in whole, yet the Dirty Projectors weren’t simply going to cover this album, they were going to reinvent and recreate it into something almost completely different. I really thought that last year’s release by Liars, the excellent Drum’s Not Dead, would be an impossible album to follow. I thought it would be one of those records a band spends the rest of their time trying to match the energy of. Thinking along those lines, I was definitely expecting this album to be, or more likely try to be, even more experimental and cacophonous than ever. At the mere thought of that I grew anxious, and strangely annoyed. Yes, I absolutely adored Drum’s Not Dead, but surely you can’t sell it to me twice? Now what? (more…)

Bonde Do Role CANCELLED!
September 26th, 2007 by Natalia ZunigaBonde Do Role cancelled their show tomorrow at the Palladium Ballroom, as well as the whole second half of the US tour, due to exhaustion and illness.However, if you happen to live in Europe, they apparently aren’t too sick to play there.
