Live - Leonard Cohen @ Nokia Theatre

April 5th, 2009 by Stuart McAfee

“I’m not here to fool you” croons Cohen in his immortal “Hallelujah“. He takes the stage as a recognizable, yet grayed and shaky-handed figure who still outshines his band with modesty and ease. Leonard Cohen has always been a definitive image of honesty, devotion, and self-struggle; an irresistible romantic spinning tales that are equal parts distilled passion, fractured faith, and shameless lust. Each poem is weighted with just enough familiarity to keep it grounded for the listener. Even in a full house, Leonard Cohen can speak to everyone:

“You came to me this morning and you handled me like meat. You’d have to be a man to know how good that feels, how sweet…” (more…)

Our 100th Review!

November 18th, 2008 by Stuart McAfee

Our 100th album review went on the blog today!

This little milestone wouldn’t have been achievable if it weren’t for our fantastic team of writers, so let’s give them a little recognition!
Also, now would be a nice time to look back, read some, and hopefully find something you like.

Thank you everyone!

WAAAAAAAaaaaaa!!!!!!! [CMJ '08 Edition]

October 27th, 2008 by Stuart McAfee

So, sorry to say, but we didn’t take any of the awards home that we were nominated for. All is well, however, as the awards for Best Non-FM Student-Run Station and Most Fun went to the good people of Canadian AM Station CJLO, and were not undeserved. “Best Use of Limited Resources” went to KSSU in Sacramento, who were also up for seven others. Recognition is what counts, and our very own Natalia Zuniga and Kaitlin Butler were chosen to exemplify teamwork and announce the winners of Best Team Effort, which again went to our Canadian nemeses.

In the spirit of the whole thing, we were more than happy to come together with everyone to talk about what we love, promote good music, and learn how to make our great station even better!

Huge thanks to UTD Students and Administration, Most Legit Lisa Hresko and the CMJ Team, Radio UTD Mom Cristen Hixson, our fans and listeners, everyone who voted, all of our loving promoters, and all of our Wonderful DJs that work hard and dream big! This was a great opportunity for all of us!!
